The Voice of Your Business
Let’s talk about voices. Some are better than others. In fact a poll conducted by the Center for Voice Disorders at Wake Forest University, shows we have some pretty strong thoughts on the subject. The results put James Earl Jones, Sean Connery, and Julia Roberts, first, second & third for best voices. On the other end of the spectrum we have Fran Drescher, Roseanne Barr, and Gilbert Godfried (former Aflac duck voice), first, second & third for the worst. Sure they have distinctive voices, but do you want to listen to them for any length of time? Or do you want them to represent your brand?
When it comes to message on hold, web audio, training films, documentaries, radio and tv commercials, you’ll want to use a professional voice artist. So many times we’re tempted to use someone in the office who has a “good voice”. But, you may regret it. Many businesses make the mistake of using an amateur voice over for their projects and regret not using a professional voice over actor. Businesses spend thousands of dollars to have someone build their website, create a video or commercial... why
not invest a little more to do the job right? It’s like that plumbing project we start, THEN decide to call in a professional when we’re surrounded by water!
But it’s more than “a voice”. Is it the right voice for your business and what you’re trying to convey? It's important to consider your business image, what you want to convey and how you want to convey it.
